Cateura Orchestra
The recycled Orchestra of Cateura is made of young musicians who live in the community surrounding the Cateura landfill, the main and largest landfill in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay.
Over the years, the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, Paraguay (aka The Landfill Harmonic) has been the recipient of approximately $45,000 to help build a music school and provide high school and university scholarships to orchestra members. Forty-one students have received IBB scholarships, 90% of whom are Indigenous students facing financial hardship that has been severely amplified by the pandemic.
In addition to the funding support, IBB has also delivered many thousands of dollars worth of donated orchestral instruments to the Recycled Orchestra.
